Every scholarship journey has a story behind it.

There is the excitement of discovering an opportunity, the uncertainty of wondering whether you are qualified enough to apply, the long hours spent working on applications, and the waiting that follows after clicking the submit button.

Then, sometimes, there is the email that changes everything.

My own journey has taken me from working as a Prosthetist and Orthotist in Nigeria to becoming a Commonwealth Scholar and pursuing postgraduate education at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom.

But the journey did not begin when I received a scholarship.

It began much earlier—with ambition, searching for opportunities, making decisions about my future, preparing applications and learning along the way.

That experience is one of the reasons I created BityTech Scholarship Hub.

Why I Started the Probity Journal

There are many places online where you can find scholarship announcements.

Knowing that a scholarship exists, however, is only one part of the journey.

Applicants also have questions.

Am I eligible?

How do I present my experience?

What should I write in my application?

How do I demonstrate leadership or development impact?

How do I choose the right university and course?

What happens if I am unsuccessful?

And what actually happens after winning a scholarship?

The Probity Journal is where I want to explore those questions from a more personal perspective.

BityTech Scholarship Hub will continue to share scholarship opportunities, application information and useful resources. The Probity Journal will be different.

Here, I will share experiences, lessons, reflections and practical insights from my own journey through scholarships, postgraduate education and professional development.

More Than Winning a Scholarship

It is easy to look at someone's success and see only the final result.

You see the scholarship announcement.

You see the university.

You see the photographs.

You see the achievement.

What you don't always see is everything that happened before it.

Scholarship applications require preparation, self-reflection and persistence. They force you to think seriously about where you have been, what you have accomplished, where you want to go and why someone should invest in that journey.

And receiving a scholarship does not end the journey.

It begins another one.

There are universities to navigate, new academic expectations, new environments, professional relationships, opportunities, challenges and decisions about what comes next.

I want this Journal to document those parts of the experience too.

What I Will Share Here

The Probity Journal will cover the scholarship journey from several perspectives.

I will write about finding and preparing for scholarship opportunities, approaching application questions, lessons from my own application experience, postgraduate education, professional development and studying internationally.

I will also share reflections on opportunities, setbacks and things I understand differently now because of the experiences I have had.

Some articles will be practical.

Others will simply be reflections from the journey.

My aim is not to present my experience as the only way to succeed. Scholarship programmes differ, applicants have different circumstances, and selection decisions are made independently by the organisations responsible for each programme.

Instead, I want to share what I have learned so that others can take whatever is useful for their own journey.

Why “Probity”?

Probity represents more than a name to me.

It represents integrity, honesty and the principle of trying to live and work in a way that has meaning beyond personal achievement.

It is also part of the thinking behind BityTech itself.

Opportunities can transform individual lives, but their impact becomes greater when knowledge and experience are shared with others.

That is what I hope this Journal becomes—a place where I can document my journey while helping someone else navigate theirs.

Your Journey May Start With One Application

If you are currently searching for scholarships, preparing an application or wondering whether you should even apply, there is something I hope you remember:

Every successful applicant was once an applicant.

They had to start somewhere.

You do not need to have every part of your future figured out before you begin. But you should be willing to understand the opportunity, prepare seriously and tell your story truthfully.

Over the coming weeks, I will be sharing more about scholarship applications and some of the lessons I have learned from my own journey.
