There are tendons above and below your elbow that helps the elbow joint to move. When these tendons are inflamed, it is called tendinitis.
How to know if you have tennis elbow:
- Pain radiating from the outer part of your elbow
- Inability to grip things / objects tightly
- Worsening of symptoms when you shake hands. Etc.
Causes of Tennis Elbow:
It is mainly caused by repetitive movements such as
- Doing a task for the first time
- Lifting heavy objects or tools
- Handling tools that can vibrate or uses twisting movements
Why you should treat it:
Even though its not a serious or life-threatening condition, it can reduce the rate of your movement and activities due to pain and discomfort. It can also lead to complications that may require surgery.
If your symptoms get too severe such that
- You are unable to bend your elbow
- You have a fever
- Your elbow looks like its out of shape Try as much as possible to get to the hospital for treatment.
Things you can do to reduce pain:
- Stop whatever activity you are doing that triggered the tennis elbow in the first place
- Try wrapping the elbow with ice or cold towel like 3-4 times daily (10 mins each time)
